On Thursday week, our team will travel to Inchicore hoping to consolidate our top of the table position. Inchicore have excelled this season, racking up big wins and surprising many with their strong team performances, most notably, the 5-0 crushing of Drogheda. For what many considered a so-called average team rating wise, they would have my vote as Bea team of the year were I neutral,…… but I’m not. Their success has been built around a mainstay of fine solid performances from Karl Brophy, Martin Burns, Christy Spellman, Michael Whelan and undefeated Chris Sheridan, resulting in a few higher rated scalps being taken. They have generally played the same formation and players throughout, though it was noticeable that they bottom loaded their team against the University which resulted in 2 draws. Despite that scoreline, after us, they have the fewest match defeats in the division. They have also shrugged off an opening day loss with aplomb, and but for that early reverse, Inchicore would be seriously threatening the University’s push for promotion as well as our own. As it stands, we only need 3 points to gain an automatic promotion to the O’Hanlon, and that has always been our target for the season. Some of our reserve players will have an opportunity next Thursday to stake their claim for a regular place in the team, & I have every confidence that they will be up to the task. Beam us up Scotty!!
