Junior Blitz Chess Series 2026/27 – September Tournament Report
Our new chess season is officially underway! On Saturday, September 26th, the Blanchardstown Chess Club hosted the first event of our 2026/27 Seasonal Blitz Series at Mountview Sports and Community Centre.
We had an incredible turnout for our opening tournament (49 players). This event marks the first of 6 monthly blitz tournaments that will take place across the season (September, October, November, January, February, and March).
🏆 Seasonal Grand Prix Rules
While individual trophies/prizes are awarded at the end of every monthly tournament, players are also competing for the overall Season Championships! The final season-long standings will be calculated using a player’s best 4 results out of the 6 events, meaning players can drop their lowest scores or miss an event without falling out of running for the grand prizes.

Congratulations to our podium finishers from the September Open events! Final rankings were determined by total points, with ties broken by WP (Buchholz) and SB (Sonneborn-Berger) scores from the tournament software.

🗓️ Calendar Update: Next Tournament Date
Our monthly tournaments are normally scheduled for the last Saturday of the month. However, under club rules, an event is brought forward by one week if it conflicts with a bank holiday weekend.
Accordingly, please note our upcoming schedule adjustments:
- October Tournament (Provisional): Saturday, October 24th, 2026 (Brought forward one week to clear the October Bank Holiday weekend).
- December Recess: No grand prix series events will take place in December.
