Match Preview as Gorey come to town..

On Saturday, we face Gorey in a near bottom of the table clash. Not only do we share the same points total, but we also share the unfortunate distinction of losing very strong players before the season started. Gorey said goodbye to young David Remenyik rated over 1700 and Anastasia Mohylna rated over 1800. Having finished 3rd for the last 4 season’s, last year was particularly cruel to Gorey, as only 1/2 point separated them from promotion….courtesy of a 6-0 win for Enniscorthy over a weakened Drogheda team in the finale. Gaining revenge over a stronger Drogheda team some weeks ago being poor consolation. Even so, Gorey’s results this year have been disappointingly mixed, in losing to St Benildus and Naomh Barrog. With a finale against Dublin & Elm Mount, they will view their next four matches as their best opportunity to get points and will target us as a must-win game. Manuel Gardenes is their star man, rated 1915 and has a recent win over the Dinosaur. The Halpenny’s, Captain Seamus and John will figure somewhere as will Sydney Cassidy & Eddie Humphrey’s both team regular’s, and all experienced players but Mark has yet to name his line up. What we do know is that we expect a close encounter and for both of us, a good chance to distance ourselves further away from the drop zone, as recent results have not been kind to our rivals. Let battle commence!!
