To all club members
The LCU league fixtures have just been published. See www.leinsterchess.com for details of expected fixture dates.
For those new to LCU leagues, John Delaney will be available to discuss these senior leagues on Saturday 9th September (junior meeting time, 4pm) and on Monday 11th September (senior meeting time, 7pm). He will provide information about the leagues and what is involved if you wish to play senior chess competive league matches. Note that we can have a Bodley North team only if we can locate a team manager. New players to senior level competition might be especially interested in this Bodley North league, and some initial information is as follows.
Re Bodley North league : this leagues involve playing a maximum of 8 games of chess in a year / season as part of a team of 5. Games use a long (90 minutes each) time control and typically start at 7.30pm. This means you will qualify for an official Irish Chess Union rating. Team will typically be a mix of adults and juniors. It is great when both a parent and a junior play on the same team and that has worked well in the past! The league is suitable for juniors and adults alike, but does involve evening matches. Significant chess improvement is achieved by players playing these long time control team events.
Note that a decision on whether we as a club will field a Bodley team will need to be taken in the next week or so. John Delaney can be contacted at john.delaney.irl@gmail.com or 0862625878 if you have questions about the Bodley league. Alternatively just attend the senior club on Monday at 7pm.
