Being asked to give a couple of prizes resulted in a mad dash from the hinterland of Meath to Mountview where the party was in full swing. John being the MC, dutifully worked his way through the Junior competitors & winners list who, without the help of parents and volunteers …none of this would be possible. It was a pleasure to meet some of the parents and children of the Junior section, and to share some chess moves with such energetic and enthusiastic participants. The O’Sullivan team won’t be short of willing members, going by the numbers which showed up today. Speaking of which, they deserve a mention as well. Led by John Comey, they endured a terrible start to the season, and as youngsters tend to do, get better as the year passes. A win and a draw in their last 2 matches, lifts them well clear of the bottom, and they could yet challenge for a mid-table place, which would be a fine achievement in their first year. We’re right behind you kids….keep up the good work! The title is not misleading as my youngest daughter accompanied me to the venue, and first gone….a packet of crisps, followed by a selection box, drinks and dad’s eagerly eyed chocolate profiterole……not forgetting, her involvement in presenting a prize or two. Have a lovely Christmas time everyone.
