Leinster Championship Results

The recently completed Malahide/Leinster Championship provided a mixed bag overall for our players.
In the Seniors, Sean McLoughlin performed above his seeding to finish 13th, with 2.5/6. which included 5 drawn matches. Tough games all round.
Luke Scott won the Intermediate Section with 5/6 and this included a last round win over Muhtarim Ul Haque who had earlier accounted for Robbie, Gavin and Danny in that order, albeit rather luckily…and that is not sour grapes!!…as he won from losing positions in all of the games. For Luke, this was a very welcome return to form and perhaps now he will begin to achieve a greater consistency. Well done young man!!!
Next up was Gavin Doyle who scored 3.5/6 which does not accurately reflect on his playing performance. His play was sharp & aggressive and Gavin accounted for 2 of the higher seeds. Well done young man!!
Danny Dwyer stumbled from challenging for top spot on the 2nd day to 2 final day reverses, ending with 3/6, but he has too much talent not to start winning again very soon. Well done very young man!!
Robbie McLoughlin had an abysmal middle tournament, but such is his strength of character, that he won both his final round games to join Danny with 3/6. Well done young man!!
……..as for the Dinosaur in the undergrowth, there was not a rustle nor a roar to be had…….not so well done…nor so young either ….prehistoric man!!
The Junior Section saw Piotr Baczkowski claim 7th place and a grading prize with 4/6 on his return to tournament chess after a 3 year break.
Matthew Tiernan finished most of his games before any other contestant in his debut performance and 2.5/6 was a fine return for his endeavours.
Maciej Fijlakowski finished strongly with a win and 2 draws, after opening with 3 defeats and a final score of 2/6.
Tomasz Fijlakowski ended with 1.5/6 in possibly the hardest of all Leinster tournaments.

Well done to everyone who represented themselves and the Club with distinction.
