Junior club will hold a 5 minute tournament on Saturday 5th October. This is our first blitz of the season.
Call for volunteers
To set up the room, and help run the event, we would really welcome parents/guardians to assist. We will try set room up at 215pm for a 230pm start.
On Saturday, John Delaney and Andrew O’Brien will explain the technical details as to how chess tournaments are run (room layout, chess clocks, Swiss Master software, tie breaks etc) and ask and invite your help. Mainly we adults work to help the younger players find their seats, and police the hall area and generally watch for anyone needing help. We also need to ferry results to the tournament director (Andrew!) promptly as games finish. Working together we can run this small event well.
Incidentally, if enough of us volunteer and can help, and we all learn what is involved, we can hope as a club to run a bigger formal junior event before Christmas. Our juniors would love that and deserve a chance to play against top opposition of other clubs! It all really depends on our having enough adult help so please consider volunteering.
