John Delaney FM competed on Board 1 for Ireland in the recent World’s 50+ Team tournament held in Dresden. Both John & Ireland punched well above their seeded positions. John produced a performance rating of 2427 with wins over CM Steffen Weitzer (2288), FM Victor Reznik (2298), Werner Wilke (2282) and Wolfgang Jakel (2266). He had draws with WGM Galina Strutinskaia (2221), CM Rickard Engman (2171) and IM Leslie Leow (2419); with the only reverse coming against FM Krishan Jhunjhnuwala (2340). All in all, a highly successful foray into the rarefied heights of International Chess. Well done John!!
